KUNSTKANTEN er en utendørs visningsarena langs den nye kyststien i Bodø, en sti som i første omgang vil danne en sammenhengende forbindelse mellom Bodøsjøen og Mørkvedbukta. Stien gjør det mulig for folk å gå eller sykle langs kysten og oppleve ulike naturområder, landskap og nærområder. Visningasarenaen vil i første omgang kurateres som fem skulpturpunkter som viser fem verk over en periode på to år.

KUNSTKANTEN er finansiert av Bodø2024. Den første utstillingsperioden på to år kurateres og administreres av Norsk Billedhoggerforening. Prosjektet ble gjennomført som en konkurranse hvor fem verk ble tildelt en produksjonsstøtte på 350.000, samt utstillingsvederlag på 50.000 for to år. Bodø kommune er eier av prosjektet.

Bodø har i syv tiår delt plass med Luftforsvarsbase Bodø. Byen har utviklet seg langs kanten av landet, med havet på den ene siden og fjellene på den andre. Byen er stadig i bevegelse, og det neste tiåret vil det skje store endringer. Når militærflyplassen legges ned vil en ny bydel, og fremtidens Bodø, utvikles. KUNSTKANTEN går langs historiske og samfunnsmessige linjer; fra prehistoriske minner, gjennom etableringen av byen, til gjenreising etter andre verdenskrig og nyere historie som «flybyen» Bodø. KUNSTKANTEN gir kunstnere mulighet til å delta i dialogen om byutvikling, samfunnsutvikling og identitet.

KUNSTKANTEN is conceived as a curated outdoor exhibition arena situated along the new coastal path in Bodø – a path that will initially connect the area called Bodøsjøen with the bay Mørkvedbukta. The path makes it possible for people to walk or bicycle along the coast and experience diverse natural environments, landscapes and local areas. For the first two-year period starting in 2024, the exhibition arena will be curated as five ‘sculpture points’, each presenting one work.

Bodø has for 70 years shared space with the military air base Bodø Main Air Station. The city has developed along the shoreline, with the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. Bodø is constantly on the move, and there will be big changes in the next decade. When the military air base closes, a new part of the city, and the Bodø of the future, will be developed. KUNSTKANTEN extends along historical and social lines: from prehistoric memories, through the city’s establishment, to reconstruction after the Second World War and recent times as ‘aeroplane city’ Bodø. KUNSTKANTEN gives artists an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about urban development, social development and identity.
KUNSTKANTEN is a unique investment in art in public space. Fresh funds have been made available in order for art to play a key role in the city’s history of change.

KUNSTKANTEN is a newly-established outdoor exhibition arena financed by Bodø2024. The first exhibition period lasts two years and is curated and administered by the Norwegian Sculptors Society. The project was carried out as an Open Call. Five works have been awarded financial support, each one receiving 350,000 NOK to cover production costs, plus an exhibition honorarium for the two years: a total of 50,000 NOK. Bodø Municipality is the owner of the KUNSTKANTEN project as a whole.
